THE local government of Navotas, through a memorandum of agreement with the Seoul International Friendship Organization (SIFO), a non-government organization from South Korea, was inaugurated a new livelihood center yesterday, July 10, 3:00 pm, at Phase 2, Area 1, Barangay North Bay Boulevard South, Navotas City.
It aims to support the Navotaas Hanapbuhay Center, a brainchild of Mayor John Rey Tiangco during his his first term in government service (2010–2013), to uplift the lives of every Navoteño by providing free regular skills training to indigent Navoteños.
The said center, which is composed of five units: Job Placement System Unit, Livelihood Trainings and Development Seminar Unit, Product Research and Development and Business Promotion Unit, Credit Cooperative Development and Capability Building Unit, Financing and Loan Application Assistance Unit have successfully provided more than 5,500 jobs and produced more than 1,700 graduates on Labor Education for Graduating Students Seminar, more than 4,500 graduates on Career Coaching Seminar.
More than 600 beneficiaries on the Summer Program for the Employment of Students, more than 1,000 beneficiaries on Tulong Pangkabuhayan sa Ating Disadvantaged Workers (TUPAD) Program, more than 750 beneficiaries on Tulong Puhunan program, more than 4,500 beneficiaries on Computer Outreach Learning, more than 4,000 graduates on Entrepreneurship Summit, 10 beneficiaries on Tulong Alalay sa Taong may Kapansanan program and 26 beneficiaries Government Internship Program as of June 2014.
The new livelihood center hopes to cater more constituents by housing regular trainers and modern equipment for basic computer skills, message therapy, hair and skin care, cooking, baking and sewing.
“This project was made possible through the generous support of SIFO’s partner organizations: Dong Sung, Korean International Cooperation Agency, Hami Global, Dong Sung Pharmaceutical Company Ltd., Jane Tour & DMC, Asiana Airlines, Interconstech Co. Ltd. and Bank of International Business which raised P15-millon for the construction of the two-storey facility and its equipment,” Ms. Joanna Joo Soon Lee, President of SIFO said.
“The organizations also pledged to shoulder the salary of trainers and other staff necessary for the operation of the center for three years while the city government will shoulder the electricity and water supply expenses,” she furthered.
