Globe Telecom was hailed as Best Asian Telecom Carrier by Telecom Asia, further solidifying its leadership in the region.
The Philippine telecommunications company bagged the award for its leadership in various areas namely innovation, business execution, financial performance, market leadership, corporate social responsibility and corporate governance.
“We embarked on our transformation journey in 2012 and since then has achieved so much especially for our customers. This international recognition further compels us to provide our customers with the most innovative product and superior service experience,” Globe President & CEO Ernest Cu said.
The company’s consolidated revenues in 2013 reached a record high of P90.5 billion, up 9% from a year earlier, driven by continued demand for data connectivity across its mobile, broadband and fixed line data segments and strong subscriber acquisitions across all three Globe brands, with total mobile subscribers reaching 38.5 million by the end of the 2013, a 16% growth from the previous year. The company’s strong revenue performance led to a core net profit of P11.6 billion, a 13% rise from a year earlier.
Globe also launched in 2013 an exclusive and groundbreaking partnership with Facebook, an unprecedented offer allowing its 38.5 million mobile subscribers free access to the social networking site on Globe data network. The service promotion more than doubled the number of Globe customers actively using mobile browsing activities.
The company’s partnership with Facebook and other online service providers such as Viber, FB Messenger, KakaoTalk, WeChat, Gmessage, Whatsapp and Line enabled Globe customers to communicate using mobile data. This is in line with the company’s brand promise of creating a wonderful world for our customers.
Following the devastation wrought by Typhoon Haiyan in central Philippines, the company also launched Project Wonderful, a program that provided livelihood, shelter and education facilities to typhoon survivors, further reinforcing Globe Telecom’s commitment to the nation as a responsible corporate citizen.
Aside from being named Best Asian Telecom Carrier, Globe also bagged Most Innovative Telecom Project for its Globe-Google Free Zone project. The company also topped the list of finalists with 7 nominations in 12 categories.
