THE annual Search for Mrs. Buntis of the Philippine Obstetrical and Gynecological Society (POGS) took place in Navotas City on March 10 in celebration of Buntis Day and Women’s Month.
14 pregnant women representing its 14 barangays joined the pageant as a symbol of their support to its advocacy to provide awareness on the needs and responsibilities of pregnant women.
Said participants were introduced at the regular flag-raising ceremony of Navotas City Government officials and employees prior their talent competition at the Navotas Sports Complex on the same day.
Cash prizes amounting to P 3,000.00, P 2,000.00, P 1,000.00 and P 500.00 awaited to those who will win as Mrs. Buntis 2014, 1st runner-up, 2nd runner-up and two consolation winners.
Gift packs were also to given to those who bagged the special awards: Mrs. Naflora, Mrs. Pro-Lacta, Mrs. Al-Fresh, Mrs. Pre-Narex and Mrs. Talent.
200 pregnant women in the city served as their audience and recipients of free pre-natal kits from the local government and health services including pre-natal check-up, blood pressure monitoring and hemoglobin testing which are sponsored by POGS. The first 50 participants also received a free ultrasound.
After the pageant, Dra. Juanita Carino, President of POGS – CAMANAVA then provided a lecture on “Wastong Nutrisyon para sa mga Buntis”, proper care and handling of new born babies and infants in order to promote the importance of new born screening for babies and regular prenatal session for pregnant mothers.
“This activity is also a chance to advocate the free post-natal check-up and pre-natal kits program of the local government under the Gender and Development Council which was launched last year in recognition of the rights and needs of pregnant women in the city,” Mayor John Rey Tiangco added.
