THE National Capital Regional Police Office (Ncrpo) on Wednesday said that it has intensified its implementation of election gun-ban by setting-up more police checkpoints around Metro Manila.
The NCRPO has already set-up some 1,134 checkpoints manned by 9,429 policemen in strategic places around Metro Manila since the 120-day long election gun-ban took effect last January 13.
The NCRPO said that Manila Police District (MPD) has the most number of checkpoints with 300; Quezon City Police District (QCPD), 258; Southern Police District (SPD), 238; Northern Police District (NPD), 175 and Eastern Police District (EPD) with 163.
These checkpoints has resulted to the arrest of 157 violators of election gun-ban and seizure of 93 various types of firearms; eight hand grenades/explosives and 75 deadly weapons.
NCRPO chief, Director Leonardo Espina said that he has already all police district and station commanders to strictly observe the Standard Operating Procedures (SOP) in checkpoint operations.
The NCRPO chief said that all policemen that would be accused or violating the rules and regulation in a police checkpoint will be investigated and charged accordingly.
He also called on Metro Manila residents to help the authorities in their anti-criminality campaign and remain vigilant on what are happening in their respective surroundings.
“Ako ay nanawagan sa ating mga kababayan na makipagtulungan sa mga awtoridad. Ipagbigay alam agad sa pulisya ang anumang impormasyon at sumbong upang mabilis nating masugpo ang krimen o kaya’y maiwasan ang pagsiklab ng krimen,” Espina said.
