TUMATAAS ang kaso ng mga nagpapatiwakal na estudyante dahil sa humihinang values education sa mga pribado at pampublikong paaralan sa bansa.
Ito ang pahayag ni San Beda College Graduate School of Law dean Fr. Ranhillo Aquino kasunod ng pagkabahala sa unti-unting pagkawala ng “values education” sa mga paaralan sa bansa.
Ayon sa pari, dahil sa mahinang pundasyon ng pananampalataya ng mga kabataan kaya nawawalan ng pag-asa kung saan wala silang makakapitan pagsasadlak sa matinding problema sa buhay.
Inihayag ni Fr. Aquino na ang mahinang pananampalataya ng mga kabataan at impluwensya ng sekularismo ang pangunahing dahilan kung bakit maraming mga bata ngayon ang nawawalan ng pag-asa sa kanilang buhay at sa maliit na problema lamang ay kamatayan kaagad ang nakikita nilang solusyon sa kanilang problema.
Giit ni Fr. Aquino, na ang matibay na pundasyon ng pamilya at pagiging mabuting halimbawa ng mga guro sa kanilang mga estudyante ang mabisang paraan upang lalong tumibay at tumatag ang ispiritu ng mga kabataan.
“You know I have been an educator all my life as a priest, ever since I was ordained, I was already teaching and I became head of the schools and all of these, alam mo in the past mas malakas ang loob ng mga estudyante natin na kahit anung hirap ang dinadaanan nila many times financial problem , economic difficulty, failing grades, tough professors, very tough academic requirement ay kinakaya nila. They made an effort. Pero what was happened in my own analysis, we have a bred of culture of youth that has gotten so used to having things the easy way.
“In other words, the generations of our parents and grandparents, was a generation formed by the experienced of the work kaya very tough ang spirits nila. Ngayon ang mga kabataan natin, things come very easily, things are at thier finger tips, so konting reversal lang sa buhay parang di na nila makakayanan. And more importantly for me , these points to a tremendous spiritual crisis on the part of the youth. There is no more reservior of the spirit. Kung saan nila pwedeng balikan in moments of crisis, you know when your face is firm and we you have certain hope in God you will understand that everything is in His hand. And while you are not going to take things so easily at sasabihin mo na bahala na anung mangyari, still you will know, I’ve given m best effort.
“Unang payo ko sa problemang ito, number one, it starts with the family. Its the way the children are brought up in thier family. Strenght of the character starts in the family but if you grow up in the family na umaga pa lang ay umaangal na ang nanay at tatay dahil sa maraming problema children will grow up in the sense of disperatio. there can be nothing bright in the future. Number two, our schools have to go back in some way to building not only the minds of the students but their spirits as well.
“We keep on talking about values education but I don’t see very much of that happening because you know Pope Paul VI said a long time ago, it is not so much teachers that are listened to, but examples”. So if only our teachers would themeselves become examples of living values talagang tatatag ang ispiritu ng mga bata. I would really like our students na alagaan sila in the atmosphere where there spirits are tested ba. Parang atleta yan e. when you are facing competition, hindi ka pwede mahiga ng buong araw. Dapat mag-ensayo, magising na maaga para mag-practice and everthing,” bahagi ng pahayag ni Fr. Aquino sa panayam sa radyo.
