“IF Senator Franklin Drilon will become the new Senate president, this will be a kiss of death for check and balance in the Senate.”
This was the statement of UNA senatoriable Mitos Magsaysay upon learning of reports that the name of Senator Drilon was being floated as a possible replacement of incumbent president Juan Ponce Enrile for the incoming 16th Congress.
“Drilon has proven time and again, his bias in favor of the administration, unabashedly lawyering for the prosecution team during the Corona trial, and blindly kowtowing to administration policies, whether they are right or not. Have we ever heard a peep from him when crises are not handled well by the President? How can he be an effective leader of the Senate?”
Mitos further said this development puts to light the real reason why Drilon is campaigning for Team PNoy to post a 12-0 victory – because he wants to secure his campaign for the Senate leadership.
Mitos said that the Senate presidency should go to a person who has proven his mettle with key issues and is not party driven, somebody who will not be dictated by the administration and will have his own mind in dealing with issues.
