MILITANT youth group Anakbayan called for the dropping of charges against the student activist Em Mijares. Mijares was thrown in jail and charged with “tumults and other disturbances of public order” and creating “alarm and public scandal,” immediately after he disrupted Aquino’s Independence Day speech in Naga City.
“Dapat lang na ibasura ang isinampang kaso laban kay Em, dahil ginamit niya lang ang kanyang kalayaan sa pananalita,” said Vencer Crisostomo, national chairperson of Anakbayan.
Mijares was also charged with assault on agent of authority, but denied that he resisted police as he was being escorted out.
Anakbayan vowed to continue the call for the dropping of charges against Em Mijares. The youth group also called for Aquino’s ouster in the midst of the controversy regarding Mijares’ case.
Crisostomo concluded.
