HANDS-OFF ang Malakanyang sa rekomendasyon ni Senador Miriam Defensor-Santiago na maghain ng leave of absence ang tatlong senador na nakatakdang sampahan ng Ombudsman sa Sandiganbayan ng kasong plunder dahil sa pork scam.
“We would rather not discuss that comment on a separate branch of government,” ayon kay Presidential spokesman Edwin Lacierda.
Subalit biglang buwelta naman ito sa pagsasabing suportado nila ang due process na ikakasa laban kina Senador Juan Ponce Enrile, Jinggoy Estrada at Bong Revilla, Jr.
“There are rules. I would support the call for due process but there are rules also that are in place when it comes to suspension of any legislator where it be from the House or from the Senate,” ani Sec. Lacierda.
Sinabi nito na personal na pagtugon ng mga senador kung nais ng mga itong mag-leave habang didinggin ang kanilang kaso.
“Part of the requirement of being charged is the opportunity to be heard by the — from the respondents. The call for the senators to go on leave is best address to their own judgment. But there are rules and procedures in the Senate as to when a particular senator may be suspended and those rules have been mentioned by Senate President Frank Drilon,” aniya pa rin.
