SUSPENDIHIN ang mga kongresistang masasampahan ng kasong plunder kaugnay sa P10 bilyong pork barrel funds scam.
“The House of Representatives will always respect what the law states. Should a suspension order be issued, once it is sent and coursed through the House, as required by our rules, we will have to abide,” ayon kay Marikina City Rep. Miro Quimbo, chairman ng House committee on ways and means.
Giit naman ni Ilocos Norte Rep. Rodolfo “Rudy” Fariñas na ang Kongreso ay may kapangyarihan na magsuspendi ng miyembro kasabay ng kanyang babala na “taxation without representation is tyranny!”
Paliwanag pa ni Fariñas na “if a member of Congress is suspended during the pendency of his case (which is usually longer than a term of three years), who will represent his constituency? The matter of holding one’s office is an administrative case. Since these alleged cases happened in a previous term, such could no longer be the basis of an admin case involving the present term. It is only Congress that can order the suspension or removal of its member.”
Ayon naman kina House senior Deputy Majority Leader at Citizens Battle Against Corruption (Cibac) party-list Rep. Sherwin Tugna at Quezon City Rep. Winston “Winnie” Castelo “no one is above the law.”
Sinabi ni Tugna na makabubuting maghintay ang Kamara kung magkakaroon man ng kautusang magsuspendi lalo pa’t umabot sa Sandiganbayan ang kaso ay “the House of Representatives should respect and implement it.”
Binigyang diin naman ni Castelo na ang mga akusado sa pork barrel scam na miembro ng 16th Congress ay maaaring magbitiw o mag-leave habang dinidinig ang kaso.
Sa panig naman ni House Deputy Speaker at Isabela Rep. Giorgidi Aggabao ay suportado niya ang naunang pahayag ni Farinas na “Congress alone has the power to suspend its members.”
Kung sakali aniyang mag-isyu ngb warrant of arrest ay kailangang isuko ng liderato ng Kamara ang kongresista subalit hindi aniya nararapat na suspendihin dahil mawawalan ng representasyon ang distrito.
