THE #abolishpork Movement spearheads a new gathering at Rizal Park on Friday with a broader and more organized anti-pork mobilization and activities.
The event is endorsed among other by the Association of Major Religious Superiors of the Philippines (AMRSP), the Catholic Educational Association of the Philippines (CEAP) and its member schools, student councils and organizations belonging to Youth Act Now!, Pagbabago!, Concerned Citizens Movement (CCM), the Artista Kontra Korupasyon (AKKSYON), Volunteers Against Crime and Corruption (VACC), Movement Against Dynasties, and people’s organizations led by the Bagong Alyansang Makabayan (BAYAN).
Several assembly points are set before converging at Rizal Park at 3:00 p.m. for a centralized program and an evening concert dubbed “Rock and Rage against Pork”.
The Catholic contingent led by the AMRSP will assemble at San Agustin Church in Intramuros for a mass at 2pm, while Protestant denominations will gather at the United Methodist Church along T.M. Kalaw with former Supreme Court Chief Justice Reynato Puno as guest speaker. The different faiths will join forces at the Round Table near Intramuros as an inter-faith contingent.
Student, teachers, medical professionals and health workers will march from Taft Ave. fronting the Philippine General Hospital, while the Babae Laban sa Katiwalian (Babala) while come from T.M. Kalaw. Cause-oriented groups under Bayan will be coming from Liwasang Bonifacio.
The program at Luneta will feature leaders of the #abolishpork Movement and performances by Juana Change, Darryl Shy and Diday Garcellano both contestants of The Voice PH, along with Flip Top rappers like Loonie, Ron Henley, Abra and BLKD.
Fr. Joe Dizon, one its major convenors, said that the activity is “meant to sustain the people’s outrage against the corrupt pork barrel system and pursue its total abolition including President Aquino’s own pork.”
The movement will return to the streets on September 21, martial law anniversary, “to remind us of crony capitalism and the misuse and abuse of public funds for private profit,” Fr. Dizon said.
