ARTISTS and performers from various backgrounds and practices will hold a different kind of “noise barrage” against the pork barrel system on Friday the 13th.

Dubbed “Rock and Rage against Pork!”, performers featuring music talents Darryl Shy and Diday Garcellano, celebrities Juana Change and Jograd dela Torre, veteran activist-musician Jess Santiago and former political artist-detainee Ericson Acosta will jam with some of the country’s most established rock-alternative and hip hop acts in a concert to be held in Luneta on September 13.

The “Rock and Rage” concert is the second half of the next big anti-pork rally in Luneta, “Forward March! #Abolishpork”,spearheaded by broad multisectoral alliance Abolish Pork Movement. The rally will start with an ecumenical service at 3:00pm. The Concerned Artists of the Philippines (CAP) will be directing the service. The free concert will start at 6:00pm.

Other artists expected to perform in the concert are Fliptop stars and rap emcees BLKD, Loonie, Mike Swift and Ron Henley.

Bands and rock acts such as Bobby Balingit, Datu’s Tribe, Bad Omen, Fuseboxx and Autotelic are amongst the long list of performers for the night.

“Rock and Rage” is organized by AKKSYON (Artista Kontra-Korapsyon) led by award-winning director Joel Lamangan and National Artists Bienvenido Lumbera and F. Sionil Jose and Youth ACT Now!, both member alliances of the Abolish Pork Movement.

Blogger and netizen Katrina Stuart Santiago (@radikalchick), one of the hosts of the concert, said, “We would like to thank the artists who have responded to this call for ‘Rock and Rage Against Pork’. As more musicians and artists continue to sign on for this cause we are hopeful that we will have their support for this campaign that will continue until the pork barrel is truly abolished.“

For its part, Youth ACT Now! said that youth and students from different universities are all geared to participate in the September 13 event.

Students from various schools along Taft Ave., Intramuros and the University Belt are preparing to march to the Luneta on that day to show their protest against the pork barrel system and to call for its abolition. Students from the University of the Philippines, Polytechnic University of the Philippines and various schools in Metro Manila have also pledged to attend.
