KUMBINSIDO ang Malakanyang na hindi madadamay ang Pilipinas sa naging banta ng al-Qaeda sa embahada ng US sa Middle East at North Africa.
Pinagbasehan ni Presidential spokesman Edwin Lacierda ang intelligence report ng US na target lamang ng pagbabanta ng al-Qaeda ang Gitnang Silangan at ang North Africa.
“Yung threat primarily, as monitored by US intelligence agencies, really primarily focused on North Africa and Middle East. As far as Secretary (Cesar) Garcia is concerned when we spoke to him yesterday, just to be sure, we also want to harden the targets here in Manila, specifically, the US Embassy and other installations of—belonging to the US government. So that’s what we are doing right now and also we are intensifying intelligence gathering. But, if you read the global alert, it was primarily focused on North Africa and the Middle East,” ani Sec. Lacierda.
Iyon aniya ang dahilan kung hinihigpitan ang seguridad sa embahada ng US dito sa Pilipinas.
Una nang pinasara pansamantala ng Amerika ang mahigit sa 20 mga embahada nila at diplomatic missions dahil sa banta ng terorismo.
