JOINT police and coast guard personnel have fished out eight fishermen after their boat capsized off the waters of Semirara Island in Western Visayas region Friday afternoon, police reported on Saturday.
Reports sent by the Western Visayas regional police office to Camp Crame said that the eight were fished by joint police and coastguardsmen at around 1:30pm Friday off the waters of Caluya town.
Regional police commander, Chief Supt. Agrimero Cruz Jr., said the eight were crewmembers of fishing boat Neydie II that was reported earlier to have capsized between Iling and Semirara islands.
The fishing boat reportedly capsized after being battered by big waves and strong winds, the police official said.
The police official said that the rescued fishermen are now in the care of the Philippine Coast Guard for proper assistance.
